Rajapalayam is a burgeoning town in Virudhunagar district. But the first thing that comes to one's mind when the name " Rajapalayam" is mentioned, is the breed of pedigree dogs associated with the place. Now there is a sudden demand for these dogs and inquiries are being made from breeders

These animals are known for their loyalty to their owners in safeguarding their property and keeping enemies at bay. With a majestic look, these dogs cause fear among strangers. Even the growl is so fearsome that thieves dread to tread where these dogs are.

Measuring four feet in height and equally long from nose to tip of the tail, these animals have now been reduced in size. Rajapalayam breed of dogs are capable of extreme speed. They are generally carnivores but could also be raised with vegetarian food, including rice, ragi, millet and vegetables.

There are two breed of Rajapalayam dogs like 'Sipppiparai dogs', and 'Kanni dogs', each with peculiar qualities. But the breeds are fast vanishing from the kennels and in order to breed and protect them, the Contemplate Kenner, near the cotton market here has started a breeding centre.

Now more and more people were interested in obtaining Rajapalayam dogs and he was supplying them, not with a profit motive but to ensure that their population multiplies .
